The history of the Lexington Rifles is the history of the Second Kentucky Cavalry itself, for from this pre-war state militia unit grew the formidable regiment which gained renown as "Morgan’s Raiders".  Made up of volunteers from all walks of life, it was the farthest ranging unit in the war — raiding, skirmishing, and fighting full-scale battles across ten states.
